SOFTBALL ACL SOUTH CHAMPS

The Lady Panthers are now ACL South Champs. They clinched yesterday
beating Whitman-Hanson 5-3 in a hard fought battle. The Game was scoreless
through 4 and a half innings. South got on the board when Jocelyn
Bettencourt (who led off with a walk) scored on a rbi single by Jackie
Irwin. South Scored 2 more in the 5th which started with a lead off walk by
Noelle Christmass who stole second and the scored on an rbi double by
Janelle Sullivan.  Sullivan later Scored after a sac bunt by Michelle
Ford and an rbi single by Marissa McHugh. The panthers of Whitman came
right back in the 6th with 3 runs of their own to tie it. The Lady
Panthers would not get rattled and came though with 2 runs in the bottom of
the inning to regain the lead. Jackie Irwin lead off with a double
followed by the game winning rbi double by Alyssa Obin.  Cayla Thomas who
ran for Obin scored the insurance run after a sacrifice bunt by Ali
Gomes and a sac fly by Noell Christmass. Obin pitched an excllent seveth
inning getting the first 2 W-H batters and then after loading the bases
bore down to get the final ground out to secure the victory and the
First League Champioship for the Girls Softball in school history

MAY 17: Plymouth South Boys Track and Field Javelin Team won the state relays today. The event consists of the three best Jav throwers from each team throwing and combining each of their best throws for a team total. The team of Sean O'keefe(154ft.), Luke Osberg155ft.), and Troy Fernandes(137ft.) combined for a total of 447 ft. to take the win.

Girl's Softball Gets Big Win over Defending Champion D-Y

May 7- The Lady Panthers had a huge win yesterday 12-10. The Panthers started out with 2 runs in the first. D-Y came back with one run in the third making it 2-1. South scored 6 runs in the 5th with 4 hits by Noelle Christams, Michelle Ford, Marissa McHugh and Alyssa Obin. D-Y came right back in the bottom of the inning with 5 runs of their own to cut the lead to 8-6. The Lady Panthers immediately responded by putting 4 more runs on the board in the 6th lead by Janelle Sullivans RBI Double along with a steal of third which allowed her to score on a throwing error. D-Y did make it close by coming back with 2 runs in the 6th and 2 in the 7th. Alyssa Obin stopped the Dolphin attack by ending the game with a great assist on a bang bang play to first.  

Sullivan was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and an rbi

Ford was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 rbis

McHugh was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 3 rbis

Jocelyn Bettencourt was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and an rbi

Monday, May 5 - Girls Softball:  Plymouth South 12 Marshfield 9

South jumped out to a 10-0 lead after 3 innings. The Panthers scored 7 runs and sent 13 batters to the plate 7 hits.  Marshfield battled back scoring 3 in the 4th 5 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th. We finally stopped the bleeding getting a 123 inning in the 7th to end the game. Pitcher Alyssa Obin gave up only 2 earned runs and struck out 8 to get her 7th win of the season. Janelle Sullivan had 2 doubles and Marissa McHugh had 2 hits with 2 rbis to lead the offense. All 10 players had a hit in the the 16 hit effort. We are 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the league.

4/30 Girls Track: In a dual meet versus Whitman-Hanson and Sandwich, South lost to Whitman 111-25 and in a close one against Sandwich they lost 71-65. For player stats visit the Spring Track page.                       

Softball: Freshman Noelle Christmas pitched her first varsity game and got a 10-1
win. Jr. Michelle Ford went 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored and 3 rbis to
lead the offense.Janelle sullivan went 2 for 4  and Marissa Mchugh went
2 for 4 and Noelle christmas was 2 for 3 .

4/30 Congratulations to Sean O'Keefe for breaking the school record in the Javelin with a throw of 173 feet. The previous record was 169'11".

The Panthers picked up another huge victory yesterday 4-3 over North Quincy. The Red Raiders were one game off of first place before yesterday when the Panthers came back from a 3-1 Deficit to win. NQ scored a run in the first off a walked batter and a couple of throwing errors. PS came right back in the bottom of the first to tie the game 1-1. NQ took the lead again in the 3rd making it 3-1. The scored remained that way until the 5th when Jocelyn Bettencourt lead off with a walk followed by a NQ error on a wind blown fly ball by Mandy Broughton, another walk by Ashley Bettencourt loaded the bases and Noelle Christmas came through with a clutch 2 RBI double to tie the game. South held the red raiders scoreless in their half of the 6th and Senior Janelle Sullivan came through in the bottom half of the inning with a double. Then after loading the bases Senior Marissa Mchugh Came up with the key SAC Fly to score Sullivan and the go ahead run. South held on in the top of the 7th leaving a runner in scoring position when Alyssa obin made a huge defensive play throwing out a speedy left hand batter to end the game. This win puts the Lady Panthers in the tounament for the third staright year.
